We do sound on a series of school concerts held in elementary and junior high schools throughout Tokyo. These projects are supported by the Tokyo government to provide children an enjoyable time and to improve their understanding of Japanese traditional performance arts, such as Rakugo, Manzai, Magic, and Daido-gei.
Our team is hired by one of the producers responsible for coordinating these concerts. The show typically begins with Manzai, a Japanese stand-up comedy, followed by Rakugo and Magic, with a singer concluding the performance.
As a sound engineer, I have worked in many school auditoriums. However, auditoriums are the most challenging space for making comfortable sounds due to the tricky acoustics. Our solution for this situation is setting up extra speakers, which can be physically demanding. However, my efforts are always rewarded when I see the students enjoying the concerts.
